Our Lean Construction Fundamentals Workshop (2 days) offers a practical introduction to the principles of Lean Construction. In this two-day training course, project teams from planning and execution learn about the lean philosophy and its most important methods—and how they can apply them in construction projects.
Through interactive simulations – the Airplane Game on the first day and the Villego® Last Planner Simulation On the second day, lean methods are taught in a lively and tangible way. Participants experience first-hand how lean construction improves processes and makes teamwork more efficient.
Lean introduction & Airplane Game
Participants receive a thorough introduction to lean construction. We present the five lean principles (value definition, value stream, flow, pull, perfection) and demonstrate typical Types of waste under construction. Afterwards, everyone experiences a dynamic group exercise – the Airplane Game – Experience firsthand the differences between traditional and lean working methods.
In this game, teams produce paper airplanes in several rounds and recognize the influence of factors such as batch sizes, flow production, and the pull principle on productivity and quality. Participants thus directly experience the advantages of continuous processes, small batch sizes, and an optimal lean supply chain in the construction process. This practice-oriented introduction creates awareness of the added value of lean and prepares the team for its application in everyday project work.

Last Planner System & Villego Simulation
The focus is on training in the Last Planner® System (LPS)—a collaborative planning approach that ensures more reliable project processes. First, we teach the basics of LPS:
- How does the Weekly planning in a team?
- What role do guidelines, buffers, and mutual commitments play?
Participants learn how transparent planning and daily coordination can achieve a reliable scheduling is achieved. We then apply what we have learned in the Villego®-simulation. In this simulation game, teams plan a virtual construction project using LEGO® bricks, which brings the principles of the Last Planner System to life. Together, the participants create a schedule, coordinate the various trades, and identify bottlenecks at an early stage.
The Villego simulation helps you improve your understanding of Collaboration and process flow in the project and learn, reliable commitments to make decisions as a team. At the end of day 2, everyone has a clear picture of, how Lean principles and the Last Planner System work in practice and which the specific added value they offer in everyday project work.

Target group & implementation
The Lean Construction Fundamentals Workshop is particularly suitable for project teams from Planning and execution, who want to complete a joint Lean introduction. Typical participants include planning managers, construction managers, project managers, and client representatives. No specific prior knowledge is required—all the important basics are taught in the workshop.
We conduct the workshop exclusively upon request to tailor it precisely to your project. There are no fixed dates – You decide, when and where the training is to take place. Upon request, we can come to you (in-house workshop) or welcome your team to Stuttgart or Cologne Welcome. The optimal group size is approximately 8–15 people so that everyone can actively participate.
During the two days, short theory inputs alternate with practical exercises. This active learning format ensures that the content is not only understood, but also put into practice immediately. Your employees develop a shared understanding of lean and discover specific starting points for improving their own project processes. This means that what they learn in the workshop can be implemented immediately in their current projects—for more efficient meetings, better planning processes, and greater adherence to deadlines and budgets.
